Beginning Rug Hooking Tuesdays, October 22, 29 / 6:30 – 7:45 pm / $25, plus $42 materials . What's the difference between Rug Hooking and Latch Hooking a rug? . LATCH HOOKING is done on a mesh backing with 1/4” wide square holes. Rug yarn is precut into 2 1/2” lengths. The yarn is knotted into each square of the mesh with a latch hook. This tool has a little hook with a catch at the end that makes it easy to knot the yarn. A shag effect is created because both ends of the yarn stick up forming a pile. . RUG HOOKING uses thick wool yarn or long strips of wool, often hand-dyed. The strips are pulled up from behind the backing material. There are no knots, no measuring, no counting, just the cozy process of creating a lovely piece of art. . You will begin with a kit to create the sweet posy piece pictured here. If you get "hooked," you could go on to create more detailed, intricate pieces like Mi Tree Home by Gayla Harmon, pictured here. . Molly was a featured vocalist of the 19-member big band she created that opened for such jazz greats as Ramsey Lewis, John Pizzarelli and Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. . SPOTLIGHT ON... Artist Olympians! Today's spotlight is Tom Daley, British diver who last week won his fifth Olympic medal. He also created the iconic sweater pictured here. . Daley began knitting and crocheting at the suggestion of his coach as a way to help him relax and focus between heats. "It just turned into my mindfulness, my meditation, my calm and my way to escape the stresses of everyday life and, in particular, going into an Olympics," he told NPR. . DID YOU KNOW... The lavender in our community garden was lovingly transported from our Bayliss building and transplanted here at our new location by Dianna Cole, Creative 360's long time teacher, volunteer, and supporter. More than 20 years ago, Dianna and a group of friends brought the lavender plants from a local farm and planted them in the gardens at front of the Bayliss building. She tended those plants through every season and continues to check in on them weekly. It was serendipitous that our new grounds have the perfect place to rehome these beauties! "JOY WAS NOT MADE TO BE A CRUMB" I went to our community garden this afternoon to take some photos and was struck by the beauty of growing things. Gardens. Community. Hope. Diversity. And it all reminded of this poem: Don’t Hesitate by Mary Oliver If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid of its plenty. Our Swifties were living their best lives at the 1st day of Taylor Swift camp! Each camper will be sporting their very own VIP Back Stage Pass with their customized Swiftie name all week. Swifties got "Out of the Woods" and into the creative vibe, making their own friendship bracelets and painting Taylor-inspired masterpieces. They were "Blank Space"-ing their canvases with vibrant colors and creativity, just like T-Swizzle would! All in all, it was a "Wildest Dreams"-come-true kind of day for the beginning of Taylor Swift camp!

𝐀𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒!!! ⁣ ⁣ Look, we know Shakespeare can be intimidating. We get it. BUT in this uniquely staged collaboration with Public Arts Midland, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬. ⁣ Shakespeare in the Park will be a full day of art, performances, music, and even food trucks. You’ll be so glad you gave it a try. ⁣ ⁣ Here are the details: ⁣ We are so excited to be collaborating with Public Arts Midland for this performing arts project. The show will be presented outdoors and will be accompanied by several other performing groups between our performances. This will be a wonderful celebration of our artistic community coming together. This is the first “It’s GIST Shakespeare” production designed to make sure no audience is left behind in the storytelling, so there will be a few non-Shakespeare roles available that will be characters helping keep the audience up to speed. ⁣ ⁣ 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 are:⁣ June 15 at 6:30 pm and June 19 at 6:00 pm⁣ You only need to attend one night.
