Welcome to the 11th annual Artfest 55 festival celebrating the creativity of Michigan residents who are age 55 and over. This year, there were 109 entries in the visual art categories and 19 pieces of creative writing. Winners in each category were announced in an opening reception Friday, July 10. Winning entries are featured below. Enjoy the virtual exhibit of the art accepted into the show here and in our gallery through August 30. There were a total of 109 entries this year and 79 were accepted into the show. Jurist Robert A. McCann served as jurist. McCann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art, Art History and Design at Michigan State University, where he heads the Foundations Area of studio art fundamentals and teaches painting. Born and raised in the Ozarks of southwest Missouri, he developed as a studio artist through studies at Missouri State University, Indiana University, and as a Fulbright scholar based in Berlin, Germany. Visual art winners were chosen in three categories: photography, 3D and 2D. The jurist also acknowledged seven additional artists with honorable mentions.
