A Night of Short Plays at Creative 360
On the weekend before Valentine’s Day, Creative 360 will present “Love is Strange”, nine fully staged short plays by local and national authors. Directed by Bay City’s Danielle Katsoulos, the stories are all themed around love…but always in the traditional romantic sense.
“Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and while I love romance, not everyone is part of a couple,” said Public Relations Coordinator Laura Brigham. “We wanted this inclusive collection of works to celebrate all kinds of love: romantic love, love between friends, love between parent and child, love for a pet, and even unrequited love.”
Twenty theatre artists from Midland, Bay City, Kawkawlin and Saginaw will join forces to bring to life nine very different stories from Michigan playwrights Nicholas Alfano, Emma Bowen, Antonio Vettraino, and Jason Applegate; along with National Playwrights Erich Goldstein and Jean Ciampi. This presentation is a part of the Celebration of Voices: The Arts as a Vehicle for Sharing Our Authentic Selves grant awarded to Creative 360 by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Some of the pieces were chosen from entries in Creative 360’s Art Speaks Playwriting Festival and Competition, including the winning 10 minute play, and some are from the playwrights who judge the competition. The performing company includes: Claudia Marsh, Matt Kehoe, Donald Owens III, José Jimenez, Gina Kearly, River Kearly, Erica Tatum, Cameron Schott, Jaeleen Davis, Bre Sklar, Shawn Finney, Darby Johnson, Rita Gnida, Dan Kettler, Nathan Hanley, Richard Gomez, Keara Dixon, Angie Noah, and Spencer Beyerlein with stage management by Mary Monroe.
“This style of performance gives a voice to many more artists than your average play,” said the shows director Danielle Katsoulos. “It is fast paced entertainment at its best!”
The performances take place on Friday, Feb 10th and Saturday, Feb 11th from 7:00 – 9:00. Admission to the event is $15 prepay, or $20 at the door. Some of the plays have adult content and language and the performance is recommended for 18+. Guests can bring their own snacks and beverages.
