Emerging Artists Exhibit & Symposium opens October 8th at Creative 360
October 5, 2020, Midland, MI. – On Friday, October 8, Creative 360 and Parker Lane Studios will open the first annual Emerging Artists Exhibition & Symposium at Creative 360. The event, which was developed to support and mentor new artists from the region, is the first collaborative event between the two arts entities in Midland.
“Both Creative 360 and Parker Lane Studios have a desire to support the work of up and coming artists” said Dacia Parker, Parker Lane Studios owner and also a professional artist. “There is so much more to being a professional artists that making the art! We planned this event as both an opportunity for these artists to exhibit their work, but also to connect them to experienced artists who can help them to navigate what can be a confusing career path.”
The event on Friday has two components. The actual exhibition opening happens at 7 pm in the Creative 360 Gallery. There will be light snacks and beverages served. The awards ceremony will begin at 7:30 pm.
Awards will be given for Best 2D Work, Best 3D Work, Best Photograph and Best of Show. The jurist for the exhibition is Pat Block, retired Professor of Art and Design at MidMichigan College. Block is as accomplished print maker and illustrator who is currently partnering with a regional conservation group to create a series of posters as well as a coffee table book.
Additionally, there will be a series of Roundtable Discussions prior to the exhibit opening with local professional artists sharing their insights and knowledge. Participating professionals include Valerie Allen, Terry Dickinson, and Armin Mersmann. Topics for discussion will include setting up a business, funding sources, getting into galleries and connecting with buyers and collectors. “While we picked our topics to appeal to new artists, we welcome all artists to participate in these informal conversations prior to the exhibit opening,’ remarked Laura Vosejpka, Creative 360 director. “We learn best from each other and this roundtable event is an opportunity to connect members of the regional arts community for learning and relationship building.”
The exhibition will be open through November 7th at Creative 360. As is the ongoing policy there is no charge for Gallery admission, however Creative 360 welcomes donations that allow them to continue this inclusive practice.
