Creative 360’s Improv for Fun (and for Life) workshop is being led by Mt. Pleasant native Dillon Harke beginning this Thursday, January 26. Former instructor, Jen Ciolino, is relocating for a job in another state. Not wanting to lose the course along with Jen, Creative 360 quickly recruited Harke to take over the reins. The eight-week workshop begins Thursday, January 26 at 6:30 and runs through March 16.
“We’re grateful to Jen for bringing this great workshop to Creative 360,” said Executive Director, Carol Rumba. “Dillon’s experience and enthusiasm make him perfect to take over the reins. We’re pleased to be able to keep this offering available to the community under such talented leadership.”
Dillon Harke was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, MI. He attended and graduated from Central Michigan University where he received a BFA in musical theatre, and appeared in many shows, including: Oklahoma!, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and The Cherry Orchard. While enrolled at CMU, Dillon was also fortunate enough to be accepted into the award-winning improv comedy troupe, Trap Door Improv. During his three years in Trap Door he was able to workshop with Chicago-based improv group, Revolver; perform at the Midwest Improv Fest; and perform with Jim Belushi and Larry Joe Campbell.
Many people enjoy Improv for the laughter that it brings. It turns out it is also a valuable skill for communication. In her 2014 Forbes article, Why Improv Training Is Great Business Training, Jesse Scinto, a lecturer in Columbia University’s Strategic Communications programs explains, “Improv is excellent business training because performers don’t know what will happen until they receive a scene prompt from the audience. They must remain present in the moment, listen carefully, and contribute freely to keep the story going. These skills turn out to be particularly useful in workplaces that rely on adaptability.
Those who wish to attend this upcoming session of Improv for Fun! (and for Life) are asked to pre-register by calling Creative 360 at 989-837-1885 or online at becreative360.org.
