In this four-part series, learn traditions from the ancient yoga teachings to discover your unique self. Use these practices on a yoga mat, in the kitchen, leading a meeting or dancing with abandon. No yoga experience required. With Kripalu-certified instructor Janet Love.
Session 1: Pranayama (Yogic Breathing)
In Sanskrit this word means “to restrain or master the life force.” The practice of breathing has many benefits from calming, evoking the parasympathetic nervous system, to energizing, feeling full of life. In this class learn the importance of breathing and other practices to take home and use in everyday life.

Session 2: Yamas & Niyamas
Go deeper, and bring the practice of the Yamas and the Niyamas into everyday life. This ancient practice helps practitioners conquer the human afflictions that cause suffering, through reflecting upon one’s own life with compassion.

Session 3: Japa and Chanting
Learn the benefits of lifting your voice and your energy with chanting, as well as japa, the meditative practice of counting beads known in some traditions as rosaries. Take home a set of beads for your own practice.

Session 4: Ayurveda
Ayurveda, originated in India more than 5,000 years ago, is the oldest continuously practiced health-care system in the world. Drawn from an understanding of nature’s rhythms and laws, Ayurveda is built around the five elements of, air, fire, water, earth and ether. Learn these natural healing concepts to create a guide to healthful living.
